LEGISLATION AND LICENSURE UPDATE
NMSHA President Michael Kaplan is providing the following update regarding the 2015 Legislative session:
The 2015 Legislative Session began today in Santa Fe. The SLP Licensure Law changes have been introduced in SB 200 carried by Senator Clemente Sanchez. You can access the bill at www.nmlegis.gov
In the left side column go to Legislation, then bill finder and then find by bill number and enter the bill number above. The bill should appear which you can print out or read.
It is important for NMSHA members to keep track of the bill and to contact your legislator to support passage of this bill. The bill cleans up some of the errors from the 2013 act and makes the language of the bill more consistent.
The Board licenses and regulates speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and hearing aid dispensers.
- Speech-language pathologists provide testing and treatment of speech, voice or language disorders.
- Audiologists test for and evaluate hearing problems and assist with hearing aid selection or other functions related to hearing disorders.
- Hearing aid dispensers test, fit, sell, and service hearing aids.
